Ann P. Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund

Ann P. Allen was a visionary, trailblazer, advocate and founder of The Women’s Fund.  After attending the national celebration of the 75th anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote in Seneca Falls, NY,  Ann Allen had the idea of forming a women’s organization in Herkimer and Oneida Counties to assist women and girls in a time of crisis. She invited a number of friends and acquaintances who were willing to each donate $1,000 or more to establish a fund for this purpose. These women became the founders of The Women’s Fund.

But founding The Women’s Fund was just one of her accomplishments.

Ann was a wife, mother to four children, graduate of Wellesley College, and community volunteer.  She was an active leader in our community, serving on various boards such as The Junior League, Oneida County Historical Society, Utica Public Library Board and others.

Her legacy lives on today. We like to think she would be proud of the work we continue to do to assist women and girls in our community, through various programs like Annie’s Fund, Isla’s Fund, Women Investing in Women, and especially the Ann P. Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Ann P. Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2023 and is given to a female student at T.R. Proctor High School in Utica, NY, where Allen was well known to be a fierce advocate for her students during her time as a guidance counselor there.

Our founder Ann Allen led an amazing life of service and her dedication and passion never waivered. We are proud to continue her legacy of empowering women and girls and will forever keep her in our hearts.

The Ann P. Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in her memory and in recognition of her career as a guidance counselor in the Utica City School District.

This fund provides scholarships to graduating young women from Proctor who will be continuing their education.

2024

Congratulations to Jessica Tran and Amy Nguyen, graduating seniors from Proctor High School with plans to continue their education.  Ann’s son David and his wife Carolyn were there to congratulate this year’s recipients.

2023

Congratulations to Aye Ti Dar Soe, a senior graduating from Proctor High School, and the very first recipient of the Ann P. Allen Memorial Scholarship in 2023.  Soe intends to pursue her dream of becoming an OB/GYN.
