No, grant recipients are not required to pay back their grant award. They are encouraged to help another woman or make a donation to The Women’s Fund if future circumstances enable them to do so.

In 2018, Isla’s Fund was established with a generous donation from one of our board members to help women in need of financial assistance to further their post secondary education and remain in school. Our first partner college was Mohawk Valley Community College, and we work with the staff to identify female students in need.
We also provide for female students through the Young Scholars program at Utica University, and are pleased to announce that we have just partnered with Herkimer College!
The Education Committee of The Women’s Fund continually works to consider and add other institutions to further our reach in the community.
Since our first grant in 2019 to repair a broken cellphone – the student’s only access to the internet and homework – we are proud to have given $18,000.
”I have been through a lot in my short years, and have come to realize that what I have gone through has given me the compassion and strength to become an RN. This grant from Isla’s Fund may not seem like a lot to some, but it will allow me to complete my degree and I hope to someday pay it forward.”
“It was hard for me to imagine a future for myself. I had little to no hope and plenty of obstacles, but I kept fighting. I expressed many concerns to the staff at C3 (MVCC) which led me to The Women’s Fund. With a grant from Isla’s Fund and through hard work and a wonderful support system I accomplished goals that one year ago I could not even imagine being possible.”
“I am very grateful for this program and every ounce of support that I received; life is very hard, especially for a single mother and the typical college student so for me not to have to worry about my daughter takes a huge weight off of my shoulders.”
