Board Member Survey - 2026

In 2027 The Women’s Fund of Herkimer and Oneida Counties will celebrate its 30th anniversary as an organization serving women and girls in our communities. As the Board of Directors we oversee the funds and the initiatives and we have the ability to envision what the next decade could be for our organization.  The following questions are designed to gain feedback from each board member, setting up a foundation to begin a planning process of what we will strive to accomplish in the years ahead.  Please complete this survey by Friday, May 1, 2026.

The mission of the Board Members, and of The Women's Fund, is to support:
• Women in crisis
• Educational needs for women
• Nonprofit programs for women and girls
• Women entrepreneurs
• Status of Women (current project providing menstrual products in area schools)

Looking ahead to the next five years, what should the Board of Directors continue to support? (check all that apply)

The Board is an active, volunteer board with a part-time employee and a paid consultant. The majority of the funds raised are available to give back to the communities. Looking ahead to the next five years should the board:
Continue as is:
Explore hiring a full time staff member:

The Board currently meets at 11:30am. As the organization recruits more women who are working full time, is there a need to address changing the meeting time?
Time Suggestion:

In recent years the Board has been able to grow its fund balance to more than $1 million dollars and we now have the ability to consider gifting more dollars annually for our initiatives - or we could offer expanded initiatives. (Our annual operating budget is $154,000. Of the total, we gift approximately $80,000 to $85,000 a year for our initiatives.) How do you feel about our current level of giving?

In December, the Board awards Nonprofit Grants at an annual luncheon. In the past, each Board member paid for their individual lunch (average per person cost is $30).

Should the organization provide the lunch at no charge as a thank you to each board member?
Should the Board invite the Volunteers from the Committees to the luncheon?
Should the organization cover the cost of the volunteers lunch as a thank you?

For example, should we recognize founding board members? Launch a special fundraising campaign? Hold a special event? Please share your creative thoughts.
